THE BEAUTIFUL BLUE GARDEN

I remember as a child with my brother being transfixed by the feature length cartoon The Yellow Submarine. We watched it daily, obsessively, for at least a year until the VHS cassette it was on gave up trying any more and the VHS player spat out a mass of chewed tape. But the legacy of that inspiration still lives to this day and you can see the influence in a lot of the art I create. Not only did The Yellow Submarine introduce me to the genius of The Beatles but also the joy of the surreal. Just experiencing the Sea Of Monsters is enough creative fodder for a lifetime.

The connection here with The Yellow Submarine to the title is that there are 6 life-drawing sketches in this piece (long buried under all the doodles) and the model reminded me so much of Jeremy Hillary Boob Ph.D aka the Nowhere Man in The Sea Of Nothing. A poetic mix of prose and rhyme and an inability to stand still made me think of how even a Nowhere Man can make a blue (meanie) garden beautiful.
