The following is a description, translated from Russian, written by Yaroslav Aleshin.
Cubist Torso is the result of a collaboration between artists Dave Strick and Igor Tsvetkov. The drama of this image is found in the dialectic of movement and calmness. The expression of individual forms, though disparate at first glance, emphasize the dynamic balance of the whole. With this approach, it is not difficult to see homage to the ideas and practices of the pre-war avant-garde and their later modernist incarnations. The pleasure in the movement of simple forms and their metaphysical symbolism, brings together both Russian constructivists, and also such artists as Ernst Neizvestny (Mask of Sorrow), Vadim Sidur (Portrait contemporary), and Antony Gormley (Swerve). The graphic style of the work, executed in an emphatically “warm”, manual manner, enhances its retrofuturistic focus. It seems that we have a small monument to modern culture, yearning for the humanistic project of the future.
