WATER #2 - Gliding On Glass by Ben Glassco

Water has the power to both give life and destroy it. One of nature’s most powerful forces, water can turn from life giver to life taker within a matter of seconds. Here, we see a moment of peace after a night of danger, allowing us to glide over its glassy surface.

One of Canada’s most iconic locations, this piece was nevertheless probably the most difficult creations I've ever made. In summer 2020 I received a call from a friend who informed me she scored a last-minute cancelation on Canada’s most iconic lake: Maligne. Knowing its rarity, I agreed and we frantically drove 14 hours through the mountains to reach the trailhead by midnight. Our plan: to paddle 13kms through the night just in time for sunrise. 24hrs later, with great effort and exhaustion, and with a new canoe off craigslist, our plan succeeded. We arrived just in time to catch the most beautiful sunrise I have ever experienced.
