Tea Time

Men relaxing in a traditional tea house in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, ca 1990.

Note the birdcage hanging in the window, the bird singing for the enjoyment of patrons.

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I traveled a lot in China. The country had opened up but the huge wave of modernization had yet to arrive and scenes such as this were still common.
