Legend says that every home in Burano, Italy, was painted a different color so that years ago, fishermen returning from sea would be able to tell which house was theirs despite the thick fog.
While I was photographing in the streets of Burano, and elderly gentlemen actually told me a different story; similar, yet cheekier.
"Houses were actually painted that way," he said, "so when the fishermen returned home after a long day of fishing and drinking, they could tell where they lived no matter how drunk they had gotten."
I suppose in a way both versions could be true...but my money is on the second one.
