This work was created entirely within SAnd, a computer program which simulates the melting and molding (Thermalization) of colored metallic sand (Metalline).
I designed sand to support a unique fusion of human and generative art and it is my pleasure to herein showcase two closely related techniques, Geometric Monochromatic Vitrification (central illuminated square) and Geometric Bi-chromatic Metal-folding (background). Both are characterized by an impossible interrupted geometry, often with geometric spiral-like forms, abrupt contrasts and improbable lighting and shadows, irregular inclusions and unusual or implausible textures.
Vitrification features an eerie illumination which emanates from the rounded edges of porcelain like areas. Bubble like inclusions compound to create an impression of submersion. Bi-chromatic metal-folding features fine brushed or etched metal or moire effects.
