Kata Tjuta / The Olga's is a natural landmark close to Uluru / Ayer’s Rock situated in a remote area in the middle of the continent close to the ‘Red Centre’ of the Northern Territories, Australia. This sprawling sandstone rock formation consists of 34 dome shaped formations.
Like Uluru, the Kata Tjuta’s are sacred to the local indigenous people, the Pitjantjatjara, with only certain areas accessible to the public. The curved surfaces of the domes seemingly absorb and reflect the light simultaneously over the course of the day.
I traveled to this area in April 2021, aptly bracketing Earth Day and due to the pandemic border closures there were very few visitors so access was unfettered.
