The Rose City of Petra is a strange and wonderous place. It has stood the test of time, weathering the ages from nearly 300 B.C. This place has stood out in my imagination since I was a child, and as one of the "7 Wonders of the World", represents a nearly unmatched draw for its shear beauty and detail. Though this one location marks one of the more elaborately and well preserved structures hewn from the rose canyon walls, the city extends for miles across the canyon ways, that once housed as many as 30,000 people.
It is a reminder to me that a moment's greed can leave scars for a lifetime. The story goes that the Treasury actually received its modern name from the riches believed to have been stored in the large urn resting on the building's center façade. In attempting to release the precious stones and metals from the urn, local Bedouins fired upon the building, silhouetting the urn's location with hundreds of scars from the gunfire to mark the greed against time for all to see.
