Inspired by our textile artwork 'Floral Chevron' (indigo on linen)
Slowglitch is the digital re-imagining of handcrafted textile works made by the designers behind Slowstitch Studio.
Our patterns are crafted entirely by hand using a time intensive process called shibori. We draw a template on the fabric and hand-stitch the entire piece at various intervals and angles. The stitching threads are then pulled to compress the work into a tight bundle which is dyed to color only the exposed portions of the fabric. We then cut the stitching threads and unravel the work to reveal the pattern.
The designs take many days to execute and feature complex geometry, infinite variability throughout multiple editions, repeats and distinctive shade gradations.
Slowglitch builds on these designs by digitally manipulating them.
In this way we aim to create works born from the intersection of traditional crafts and human creative intent which transpose the original patterns to a vision of the future.
