'The Revolt' is a part of my Indo Futurism series, where I am reinterpreting characters from native traditions in a Science fiction environment and this work is based on the ritualistic art form 'Theyyam'. In South India 'Theyyam' can be seen as a vibrant art form that is very much presented as a form of resistance, a way to uphold the spirit of the protest from the downtrodden communities of the society! In a patriarchal Indian society it's rare to see people celebrate and worship a lower caste woman as goddess who stood against the powerful upper caste male dominant society. 'Neeliyar Bhagavathi Theyyam' is one such exceptional case. Two domes in the illustration are inspired from the appearance of ‘Neeliyar Bhagavathi Theyyam’. School girls looking at these domes and a kite that got stuck at the tree reminded us of the silent revolt of Indian women throughout history to the present and how it's going to continue in the future.
