The Great Icosahedron, known in the Renaissance as Elevatus Vacuus (empty elevated icosahedron) tries to free itself from its polytopic core, but can't resist snapping back into its elegant spiked form.
Great Icosahedron is the second in a series of three pieces in the Electric Forms collection, a collaboration between LIBESKIND ARTS, artist Adamo Moses and clarinetist Bill Kalinkos. Electric Forms is influenced by the geometric figures of the famed Renaissance mathematician Luca Pacioli. Pacioli’s work is usually taken very seriously, yet we know from his journals that this genius polymath also had a lighter side which we’ve attempted to draw out in this collection. Full of spirited movement and unexpected transformations and accompanied by original music, the collection seeks to reinterpret Renaissance geometries for the 21st century.
