Where piety flows into the abyss.
This shot was taken as I arrived for a overnight shoot along the banks of the Hudson in upstate New York. The sunset was stunning with brilliant reds and oranges; and turquoise backdrop accentuating the low clouds was gorgeous. I couldn't park the car and get my camera out fast enough. What makes this shot a true treasure is this inversion, seen in the wispy tentacles falling into the center.
Actually moving upwards, this blob of warm rising air creates the roll and strings that reach far into the darkness. A quick 180 in post and the clouds wind down like a river towards the drop off in what I imagine is a once in a lifetime capture as small scale events like this are impossible to forecast.
