On top of the mountain Abraham is getting ready to sacrifice his son. Years later wars will break out over which son Abraham was about to sacrifice but few argue about the other important detail of this story. There was someone else who paid the ultimate price that day – the lamb that was caught in the bush.
I love this story of Abraham and his son. A lot of people do. But I always remind myself to look at the events in it through the eyes of that lamb that happened to be passing by that fateful day. That is why the image of the lamb is so prevalent in my art. At times they serve as the sign that warn us of impending doom. Others remind us during the night that the new morn is coming. But they always tell us that we rarely pay for our mistakes. There is almost always someone else who has to offer that ultimate sacrifice.
That is what you find in the green eyes of this lamb that awaits his fate. Our lives with their mistakes are reflected in the eyes who is about to pay for it all.
