With the recent rise of racism in Singapore, our leaders' ignorance on the topic and the celebration of the country's day of independence all converging together, made me feel the creation of this piece was important.
The words of our National Anthem used to bring pride, now it brings questions as the veil of happiness slowly fades. The piece features cutouts of articles about the acts of racism that's been happening, blended into the scene, much like how racism has been blended into out society for ages, lurking and disguised, but now it has come to the forefront.
We wear the scars of racism on our bodies, instilled in our skin.
