My family is lucky to have very generous relatives with a cottage on water. When visiting the cottage in summer we fish for fresh crab, take long walks on the beach, and kayak on calm sunrise waters. A family tradition after dinner is a stroll to the community flag pole to watch the sun set. During our stays I try and capture the rhythm of place and vibrancy of community. Upon returning to the studio this set of images immediately evoked one of my favorite Pacific Northwest artists, Z.Z. Wei. In “Submarine Races” I feel the warmth of the sunset glowing on youthful lovers lost in the Chevy.
