A Zen Buddha meditates while a spirit dances on his face. A Chinese character 舞 means to dance, and the top half of the character is 無 (emptiness), a key concept of Buddhism. Also often in Zen masters' stories, they burst out dancing after they suddenly got enlightened. The coexistence of calmness and joyful manners is the middle way.
