“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” - Anonymous.
This photo was taken after a show at Paris Fashion Week, September 2019. The model (Taylor LaShae) is not someone I know/knew personally; we did not have any personal connection and had never met, up until that point. Though it looks as if she is standing still in the shot, she was leaving the show and walking to her car but saw me with my camera, so she looked up for just a split second - long enough for me to capture the portrait.
This is the beauty of the fleeting nature of these moments. Someone I don't know, yet for a split second we made an intimate connection. I found myself speculating and making up what I thought her story might be - where is she from? Has she lead a happy life? Is she truly happy in that moment? Portraits can be scary because you can't hide in them – there's no background noise, no props, no nothing. They give people a story, a character even.
