Arrowtown - Where history meets nature.
Charming and quirky, Arrowtown is a 25 minute drive from Queenstown, and is a delightful gold-rush village nestled below the beautiful peaks that surround the sparkling Arrow River.
It is also home to thousands of wasps this time of year! The walk from the township to the viewing point takes only 30 minutes but the entire walk up I was flanked by a constant stream of wasps. Just going about their business, whatever that is, they didn't seem a threat. I may have kicked at one or two that stopped to have a sniff of my shoes but otherwise it was surprisingly uneventful.
I figured they would be less active as the sun went down so stayed up around the viewing point for a few hours to photograph sunset.
This was a most memorable evening from one of my first solo photography trips.
