Anyanwu II

Anyanwu II is a derivative of the print Anyanwu, featured in my series "The Sacred Star of Isis" made in 2017. Anyanwu is a solar deity and translates to "eye of the sun" in Igbo.

I was inspired by Octavia Butler's character Anyanwu in her book Wild Seed. This being is a shape-shifter who possesses the ability to alter their cells through metamorphism when necessary for survival.

I think about adaptation through language making and other forms of cultural expression as a form of resistance to colonialism and Trans Atlantic Slavery.
