Patience and perseverance are key elements to astrophotography and this was especially accurate the night I captured this shot. Unlike the usual issues with battling light pollution, the clouds and the moon this night started out well with a cloudless and moonless night.
It wasn't until I got to my destination (Horton Tower in Dorset) where the real problems started. Mist! It was everywhere, but I ventured on into the countryside for my planned location.
I have to be honest the mist was so thick that I couldn't see further than a metre in front of my face and after firing some test shots I nearly packed up and went home with no obvious signs for the mist to clear. Then all of a sudden the mist dissipated and allowed me to capture.
As I clicked my shutter the International Space Station crossed through the Milky Way Core and flew right above the tower. Then without warning the mist engulfed me again. A night I will never forget providing a shot that will last a lifetime.
