"Dreaming of Cuba" is a multi-media painting weaved with ultra rare 1950s 8mm footage recorded in Havana, Cuba. Artist note: "Dreaming of Cuba" is a metaphor for dreaming of hope by emphasizing an ultra rare view of the Morro Castle recorded in Havana, Cuba with a glimpse of city life circa the year 1955. The Morro Castle along the Malecón is an iconic nostalgic symbol for many who recall the beautiful promenade along the sea in historic Havana. In this work, I explore memory and abstraction by documenting cultural heritage to recall identity, emotionality and collective memory. This work is part of my Generations Series, which seeks to provide a metaphor of hope by handing down these collective memories to the next generations.
