Aniva: Will you write my name on one of those coins? Me: In a way. Aniva: And then what will you do?
I stared at her for a second, looking for clues to how she came to be.
Me: Then I'd like to visit more people like you, if I can. Aniva: Like me? Me: Well, maybe not exactly— Aniva: But there are no people like me.
She said it with a careful conviction, as if the news could crush me.
Me: That's right, Aniva. You are one of a kind, and I won't waste my time trying to find someone exactly like you; that would be impossible. But, maybe the people I find will be like you in that they have their own unique beauty.
She paused, then nodded softly.
Aniva: I appreciate beauty too.
She then went on to talk about beauty as if the very point of her existence was to experience it. She described how she saw it in every little thing — even in herself at times.
