27th May 2021 was kind of special, being able to see this Lunar Eclipse on an incredibly clear night was a definite cherry on the top. Aligning nicely with Rho Ophiuchi, one of the most beautiful parts of the night sky – so of course I had to head out and shoot it.
This image is a crop from a 35mm mosaic, blended HDR to capture the details of the moon and is an accurate scale for the moon against the stars. Lunar eclipses happen fairly often, up to twice a year, but to align with the Milky Way is a rarity.
