Running under the Chicago River, this engineering marvel was built by hand in the 1860s. The goal of this project was to connect the business centers downtown to the populous north & west sides of the city.
Today, this tunnel is sealed away & hidden as if it never existed. The remains continue to deteriorate beneath the strain of the river. Water slowly seeps into the infrastructure. Bricks fall one by one as nature reclaims what was once hers.
