You are looking at something very old made new by irrigating its form with a new mythology. A fragment of an unknown Roman sculpture, c.117 to 138 CE, rests upon a winged plinth as a network of poisonous vessels become embedded beneath its surface. It is the penetration of a disease gilded by power and the subsequent amputation of its effects.
