In 1994, a week after I bought my first computer, I met a friend who was hiring a computer programmer. "Can I pay him to ask from my laptop to perform certain tasks?" I asked my friend. "Yes, that's what a computer programmer does", my friend said. This programmer coded "Output 1.0" for me: a simple progress bar; once it would fill up completely, the artwork was over. In 1996, I exhibited "Output" in my solo show at Le Consortium Centre d'Art Contemporain in Dijon. The first digital readymade.
