The rolling hills in Palouse, WA have always intrigued me with the way the area can look so eerie and desolate for most of the year, and then for a small window of time look like something out of a fairytale.
This window within which you can see the landscape with a perfect mixture of greens and golds falls in early June.
I had my trip all planned out and then we entered what ended up being a month of record high temperatures throughout the Pacific Northwest. It was unquestionably unpleasant to be outside, but I knew I had to make the trip anyway.
The moment I arrived I felt a sense of joy flow over me. It was hazy from wildfire smoke, which created soft lighting and a surreal atmosphere even midday.
That and the feeling of going from multiple days of being in 105-110 degree weather to it being 75 and breezy was incredibly refreshing.
The sun began to set and it felt like the landscape came to life as the light danced on fields of green and gold.
