November 2017 - Mixed Media on Canvas
Story: "The Statue of Tunes" was made in my Harlem NYC apartment not long after my first painting. My method of application was inspired by Jean-Michel and a technique that I learned on youtube called "Impasto"
After discovering the art of impasto, I realized the technique helped me find new meanings in my art. Layers and Layers were painted ontop of each other, and new discoveries were being made. There's even some encounters I had on the street that I mention in this work.
For example, on the bottom right of the work you'll see written in gold paint marker "000 Harlem dude said it" - This message was taken from a street encounter I had when walking home from the gym, when two men outside of a bodega were optimistic on the upcoming lotto numbers. I couldn't get the scenario out of my head - so I painted it directly on the canvas.
A lot of other messages were mentioned in this work, like Hey Mom, F*ck Cancer and as many + signs you can see.
