Midnight in Venice

I created this image in Venice minutes before midnight on New Year's in 2017. Exposed for 34 seconds, Midnight in Venice reveals a boat traveling through a dark canal to create a surreal sense of isolation and a lonely moment in a typically busy place.

Night photography is a solitary, almost anti-social, pursuit for me. In this image, we encounter another lifeform in the darkness. But instead of this form being human, it appears as a unusual light cutting through the night. To me this only emphasizes the surreal and solitary act of night photography.
