We try to put ‘our best foot forward’, In hopes of being better, being extraordinary, being valid. We constantly evaluate ourselves by the parameters set by the world, to create our very own personal sieve, a distortion filter we view ourselves through. The sieve is unkind, unfair, and makes our triumphs look ordinary, less than ordinary even. Steeped in self doubt, we are a bundle of insecurities that deflates the value of our work, our sense of self, and the world we create. This self imposed mundanity incubates what the capitalist world needs in order to thrive: our deep resentment for mediocrity. Trapped in this vicious cycle of evaluations—value of self depends on value of work determined by a world with no values—we forget, that in order to live we must sometimes simply survive. We forget, that sometimes just putting one foot in front of the other is a win, sometimes just being able to stand still is victory.
