It is in W.E.B Du Bois literary work "The Souls of Black Folks” that I was face to face with the mirror of my experience as a black man. Du Bois speaks of the battle between internal and external being and how black men often find themselves in a manic and depressive state. It is in this experience of constant struggle with oneself, we observe the world in a state of rage while demonstrating a more docile nature as to not be ostracized as a villain or beast. It is this poking and prodding that causes a fissure or break in the human spirit. This series of chasms is my attempt at visualizing those breaking points.
