It is said that our eyes are the windows to our soul and to our inner selves, at least that's what they say in movies, books and poems. I often wonder what will someone find by looking into mine?
If you attempt to look into my eyes, perhaps you'll find the above mentioned window that overlooks 'who' I am? Or maybe you'll find something lifeless and inanimate and wonder 'what' are you looking at?
Scientists say that we humans find baby dolls quite creepy. Why so? Well it's because with dolls and other human-like objects that do a better job at mimicking what a real face looks like, our brain is searching for a mind and not finding one. The physical cues like eyes, mouth expressions are telling our brain this thing is alive, but we know it's not. That juxtaposition creeps us out!
There are times when I am convinced that just like a doll, I am a static representation of all the humans that I have observed in my life. And in these times, I wonder, am I a 'who' or a 'what'?
