Having struggled with anxiety and some mild OCD my whole life, one of the ways I can describe it as this circus monkey living inside your head, who is very mean and annoying. This circus monkey uses fear to make you do things such as counting, tapping, cleaning, checking among many others. It also loves telling you the meanest and most negative things about yourself and the people you love. By practicing Mindfulness, you can learn to stay in the present moment, so that the monkey fades far into the background, barely being noticed.
This is a collaboration with the amazing @cartist4321, an OCD warrior and an incredible artist who has thoughtfully depicted mindfulness in his “Mindfulness: The OCD Playground” piece.
