I am at war with my worst enemy - myself. Earlier this year, I chose to fall in love with someone knowing fully well that it would end in tears. I dove in, and it indeed ended in tears.
I wasn’t surprised because it wasn’t the first time a person realized I wasn’t what they wanted, but it didn’t make it hurt any less. I have always struggled with my self worth. I live with this nagging fear that someday, the people I love will leave me and that’s all I prepare for.
But something changed this year. I was admitted in the hospital and during my stay, my friends showed up everyday and showered me with love. On the days I don’t feel as strong or worthy of love, I let them lift me up. I lean into their love and bask in it. Now when I face a battle, I know that I’m not alone and I have friends who will anchor me.
Because of love, I am victorious.
