Ever since the 90s I've tried to create at least one Halloween themed render each year. Sometimes I go overboard with the pumpkins and other fun tropes and sometimes I try to create something that will make a great wallpaper year 'round.
In 2014 my son Ian was planning to dress up as a black angel for Halloween. This brought to mind my years at the U of Iowa in Iowa City where there's an infamous black angel statue in Oakland Cemetery. Local legends hold that if you kiss the statue you will drop dead within a year.
The "autumn" version is one of my most popular Halloween images but also a personal favorite and my tribute to the city where Digital Blasphemy was born.
One of the things I remember most about Iowa City was the brutal winters. I've visited Oakland Cemetery during wintertime and it's eerily beautiful. Snow seemed the perfect mournful compliment to this scene and it turned out to be arguably more popular that the Halloween version.
