Lagos is the most populous state in the most populous black nation on earth, and it has the longest coastline in the country. These waters provide a livelihood for coastal settlers who have conquered the beaches and made it home. This is a tale of a young fisherman returning from his first solo fishing trip as he journeyed back from the Mighty “Omi Osa,” a rite of passage for every young fisherman from the Epe community circa 300 years ago when the first settlers from the hinterland conquered the coastlines. Titled “the journey home,” this piece captures an intricate cycle of life for fishermen, and it also celebrates the coming of age. The young man successfully proved his bravery, wisdom, and understanding of the natural environment to journey back home with the catch of the day.
