''As the hustle and bustle of the Jiufen Old Street Market settles down and the shops close, darkness rises. The red lanterns' faint glimmer allows the keenest eye to discern some rodents scurrying around as stray cats chase them for a meal. That's when the crickets start chanting and the sea breaze from downhill makes the wind chimes dance. That's when the Jiufen Old Street Market is the most alluring for a wanderer.''

This painting is inspired by my most vivid memory of Taiwan, back when I explored the empty streets of Jiufen under the moonlight. I tried to replicate the town's gloomy ambience as exactly as possible.
