Orchid series (3/3)
'Venus Slipper Orchid'
My mom has been a solid rock in my life. Especially once the pandemic started she encouraged me to draw and do the things I was passionate about to help me with my depression. She's one if not the most selfless and strongest people I've ever been fortunate to have in my life. Her love of orchids is well known so this series is a heartfelt dedication to her and her beautiful soul. I love her so much and I hope this series reflects that.
This final piece was a challenge to make because of the many hues in this particular orchid. I wanted to incorporate all the colors and blend them harmoniously.
Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus coined the name Cypripedium calceolus in 1753 through the Species Plantarum. The genus name comes from the Greek words “Kupris pedion.” It means Venus’ foot, referring to the Roman goddess of love, beauty, and desire. The species name calceolus, on the other hand, translates to “small shoe” in Latin.
