I took this photograph at the site of Göbeklitepe in Northern Mesopotamia—in other words, at the ground zero of history where the foundational stones of patriarchal society were laid for the very first time. What I seek to reveal here by calling attention to these two small details is the hidden history of gender inequality, one that is 12,000 years old.
