Endangered female Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) and calf in the Karen Elephant Serenity sanctuary, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Mae Kham Suk was rescued from a logging camp where she endured pulling heavy timber on a daily basis. Her daughter, Heng heng, was already born in the sanctuary and was spared the brutal process called "Phajaan" or "crush", and escaped a lifetime of abuse in the logging, riding, or entertainment industries.
