Lunar, in the Spanish language means beauty mark. I was raised bilingual and when I was a child the word always intrigued me. I thought “Why is a word that makes me think of the moon, being used as a name for something so small?”
Now when I think about it, I feel that Spanish really is a Romance language. After all, it’s during intimacy, those moments when only two of you exist, absorbing every ounce of each other- that is when you see all of the beauty marks that are normally hidden to the world. And those moments should make you feel like you’re on the moon.
My work always consists of photographing others, so for this work I decided to photograph myself.
