Caught Off Guard

Things out of their element can be startling. I discovered these whale bones on one of my favorite beaches in California and was sad to see them. Then I got up close and watched the birds feasting on the blubber. This is my favorite shot showing parts of the whale's spine while birds go to work further down on the tail.
