Essential Black Lives

‘Essential Black Lives’ was taken on May 30th, 2020 during city-wide protests for Black lives in New York City. Healthcare workers stepped outside of the hospital with raised fists to encourage protestors passing by on Madison Ave in Manhattan. This image speaks to both the global pandemic and the fight against racism that Black healthcare workers experienced in 2020. The image was also included in the charity drive for Photos From The Revolution, which helped raise over $100K for those in need during the protests last year. Recently, it was acquired & added to The Whitney Museum’s permanent collection.
