Gus Van Sant was a painter before he was a filmmaker. He painted a series of crashing houses which he gifted to friends. The crashing barn sequence in My Own Private Idaho, was a kind of visual poem, and a nod to the paintings. Rain asked Gus about them. He told her he gave one of his favorites to R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe. Rain asked Stipe to take a photograph of it. Teetletron then animated it, and set it to the dreamy pedal steel performance by Bill Stafford. And now, there is just one version of this unique collaboration on the blockchain. Gus wanted all proceeds to benefit LaunchLeft's ongoing support of emerging artists. In addition, 20% of profits will be donated to charity.
