In September I lost my head. I've suffered from prolonged mental health issues and my medications abruptly stopped working. Upon switching drugs I was thrust into a nightmareland, teeming with open-eye hallucinations, paranoid delusions, and a near-complete loss of communication.
In late October I found my head. In the liminal state—dreary, dreamless—"One Way In, One Way Out" came to exist. Looking at it now having weathered the storm the image feels as if it were manifested elsewhere, in some other land I hope to never visit again. I see the ghosts who haunted me for those months in every whip and drag of paint.
But I also feel pride. This piece is an embodiment of those months: chaotic, violent, frightened, scattered, and beautiful. There was one way out and I found it: creation.
I wish you all the best of health: mental and physical. Love yourself. Love your art.
