Countless raindrops pounding like endless thoughts - the sound loud enough to quiet the liveliest city on Earth. Enough to make one run for cover or to sit in a static, drowned-out contemplation. The city drenching its inhabitants, cleansing them in a stormy baptism.
This was an unexpected rain, the kind that happens in the heat of summer - clouds swell and dump for just 10 minutes, enough to flood the city and send men running in their suits. As I stood under cover, I saw a man quietly walking with his umbrella amidst the chaos. I saw people running around him and I decided on a faster shutter speed, freezing the rain and everything in its path.
This moment was pivotal for me. Right after I captured this I realized how it would change my photography, making my vision more complex. I started looking for more elements surrounding my subjects, seeking depth not only in the image but in the story it presents. I will never forget the excitement and I will never be the same.
