I, a storm chaser, am scared of lightning, but yet I love to photograph it. This moment proves this. I drove as close as I felt safe to this storm which was right on the edge of some light rain. I setup my tripods as fast as I could unaware this storm would drop bolts this close to me. In spectacular fashion, a huge, bright bolt popped out front sending me under my car for a second and then right back to my cameras to see if I got the shot. Lightning is so random and powerful that one hit, out of no where can end your story there. I take the risk to photograph phenomena like this, but the power and beauty of lightning keeps me going. Lightning is beautiful and it is wonderful because you can have the only shot of a bolt that will ever exist and not every bolt is the same. I am scared of the strike but fascinated with its beauty.
