Sacred Wisdom: Offering Light by cstreet

Offering Tibetan butter lamps is a daily ritual practice where people send light to loved ones who have passed, those celebrating life’s milestone or to simply send more peace and light into the world. I created this image at the Dalai Lama’s temple in Dharmsala just days before he conducted public prayers at the temple.

I love the rustic beauty of this image and I often wonder about the volume of peace these lamps have offered the world.

This image was part of a documentary project exploring the cultural preservation of the Tibetan Exile Community while documenting in India in 2006.
