Facing the Past: God, I Just Want to be Happy

This piece provides the inner monologue of someone on the verge of taking their own life. They hesitate while stepping barefoot, with shoes in hand, off the edge of the staircase railing. With their head raised to the ceiling they talk to God. As crimson tears flow down their cheeks, they tell God that they just want to be happy. Behind them, a shadowy figure looms over them on the wall; a constant presence that has lingered throughout their life. It urges them to take the leap. As they lean forward, a red glow illuminates them from below; signifying exactly where they will be going with this final act.
