I have such mixed emotions when I see this flag now and that breaks my heart. I thought it appropriate to walk back to the park under this giant flag gently waving in the rainy wind down the streets of the nation’s capitol. I know we’re facing a time where this iconography has been co-opted by white nationalists and will be used against us. I know we're looking at the possible end of that flag representing freedom. And I’m well aware that this flag is the symbol of oppression and occupation for so many. This flag is a symbol and I fear what it will symbolize in the coming years.
